Today was spent getting last minute presents wrapped and doing a little baking with Grace and Gavin. Grace is at that wonderful age where you can explain things to her and she actually gets them. A lot of times she even puts things into perspective for me, which I am grateful for. With all the decorations, party's, shopping, etc. that comes with Christmas, it gives me the chance to talk to her about what Christmas is really about. I have been able to explain to her that we are celebrating the birth of Jesus and we put up decorations for him and we give each other gifts to show our love for one another. She is especially drawn to the star this year and what it represents. Any time we see a star she will stop and say, "look Mommy, that star shows that baby Jesus was born." Throughout the weeks we have been giving gifts to Jesus as well. Some of our gifts have included: Showing extra love for our neighbors, Sharing with my brother Gavin (Grace), Learning more about Him, Remembering our purpose, and being gentle with each other (Grace). When Christmas Eve arrived and I told her that tomorrow is Jesus Birthday, Grace got so excited and then said, "we need to make him a birthday cake." So we did. We made him a lemon cake with a big yellow star on top to remember that he was born. Grace, Gavin, and I had a lot of fun making and decorating His special cake together.
